In the September 7 Legacy Giving supplement of the Irish Catholic Newspaper, Misean Cara Board Vice-Chair, Sr Josephine McCarthy, PBVM speaks with Ruadhán Jones about the critical role that legacy gifts can play in helping to support missionary development projects and the strong communities they are helping to build overseas.
“Handouts are very temporary, but if you develop local leadership and you develop self-sustaining local communities, then that’s much more long term than handing out some funding in a short term way,” says Sr Josephine McCarthy. “Sometimes there’s short term funding for something, but if you get a legacy (gift), you can continue that project.”
