Read on to learn how you can support our members’ emergency appeals.
On 24th June, Venezuela was struck by two powerful earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, causing widespread destruction to buildings and infrastructure, and a devastating loss of life, with 1,700 people killed and thousands more survivors now facing an ongoing crisis. This tragedy has struck a country already grappling with years of difficult economic and political conditions.

Missionaries Responding When It Matters Most
Misean Cara has several members based in Venezuela who are working with their communities to identify urgent needs and mobilise emergency relief for families struggling to recover from the shock and devastation of the earthquakes. This includes the Salvatorians (Society of the Divine Saviour), the De La Salle Brothers, the Salesians of Don Bosco, and the Irish Jesuits International.
Members are providing basic shelter, food, and dignity kits, as well as hope and psychological support in these critical early days and weeks after the crisis.
Why Missionaries Are First to Respond
In times of crisis, Misean Cara members are often among the first to arrive with lifesaving aid, essential supplies, and compassionate care for those hardest hit, supporting families and communities as they begin the long road to recovery.
This is made possible by their long-term presence and deep-rooted trust within the communities they serve. Missionaries don’t arrive as strangers; they are already there, known and trusted, with the local knowledge and relationships needed to respond swiftly and effectively from day one.
And their focus extends beyond immediate relief. Missionaries place a strong emphasis on helping communities rebuild stronger, equipping them to better withstand future crises.
Misean Cara Members’ Emergency Appeals
The Irish Jesuits International and the Salesians of Don Bosco Ireland are both running emergency fundraising appeals to support their efforts on the ground in Venezuela. To learn more about their work and how you can help, please read below.

Providing temporary shelter, safe drinking water, baby formula, essential relief items, and psychological support to those most affected, the Irish Jesuits International and their partners on the ground are bringing relief, dignity, and hope to families who have lost everything — supporting them through the immediate emergency and the long process of recovering and rebuilding their lives.

While still assessing damage to their own buildings and institutions, the Salesians began providing emergency aid immediately following the earthquake — organising food and shelter support for 600 affected families.
Standing Alongside Venezuela
Alongside these appeals, the Salvatorians and De La Salle Brothers also continue to work within their communities in Venezuela, helping to assess needs and coordinate support for those affected.
Together, Misean Cara’s members are reaching families across Venezuela in the hardest days of this crisis — providing not just emergency relief, but the foundation for long-term recovery.
