For the 10th year running, Misean Cara is delighted to have co-hosted a live broadcast of a World Mission Sunday Mass from the studios of RTÉ Television, on Sunday 19th October. We were pleased to be joined by MISSIO Ireland (The Pope’s official charity for overseas mission / www.missio.ie) and AMRI (The Association of Leaders of Missionaries and Religious of Ireland / www.amri.ie/) to prepare this mass to celebrate and support the work of missionaries working around the world to promote justice and equality for vulnerable communities.
Watch a re-broadcast of the Mass on the RTÉ Player here:
Each year, October is set aside in the Catholic Church as the Month of Mission, established in 1926 by Pope Pius XI to “foster understanding of the greatness of the missionary task, encourage zeal among the clergy and the people, make the missionary movement more widely known, and encourage offerings for the missions.”
A highlight of the month each year is Mission Sunday, a day for the Catholic Church’s annual appeal for spiritual and financial support for the life-transforming work of overseas mission and missionaries. Please support the missionary work of Misean Cara members around the world with your donation by clicking here.
Following a recorded introduction by Pope Leo in support of World Mission Sunday, this year’s mass was led by Fr Michael Kelly, Saint Patrick’s Missionary Society and National Director of MISSIO Ireland, with musical accompaniment provided by Music Ministry Together under the direction of Ian Callanan.
