Misean Cara is an Irish faith-based missionary movement working with some of the most marginalised and vulnerable communities in over 50 countries, promoting human rights through the delivery of basic services – in the areas of education, health, livelihoods and income generation, as well as community mobilisation.

Our members’ holistic approach to eliminating poverty, gets at the root causes of social inequality through locally appropriate responses. In partnership with local communities, and other international and national agencies, this work continues to make a difference to the lives of the poorest.

The connections with communities that our missionaries build over many years’ creates the social capital that lasts longer than the cycles of a humanitarian crises. When the media spotlight fades and moves on to the next attention-grabbing story, our members stay, rolling up their sleeves, helping rebuild lives and dreams.

Guiding Principles for Fundraising

Misean Cara is committed to achieving the standards outlined in the Statement of Guiding Principles for Fundraising.

The statement provides Irish charities with good practice standards for fundraising. It was developed after extensive consultation with industry experts and stakeholders including charities, non-profit organisations, legal and financial advisors, donors and academics.

This process was led by the Irish Charities Tax Reform Group and supported by the then Department of Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs.


The statement aims to:

  • Improve the way charities in Ireland raise their funds.
  • Promote accountability and transparency among charities.
  • Provide clarity and assurances to donors about the organisations they support
