Celebrating 30 years of the AAVE Group – serving those with HIV/AIDS in GoiĆ¢nia, Brazil.

At a recent event in Goiânia, Brazil, more than 100 people came together to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the AAVE Group. Co-founded in 1995 by Sr. Margaret Hosty of the Sisters of Saint Louis, the AAVE Group provides support and information to people living with HIV/AIDS so that they may live lives of dignity.

Sr. Margaret, along with the staff, volunteers and service users of AAVE, welcomed special guests from the Embassy of Ireland in Brazil – Ambassador of Ireland to Brazil Martin Gallagher and Deputy Head of Mission Maurice Nolan – as well as the Ā Auxiliary Bishop of GoiĆ¢nia, Fr. JosĆ© Roberto, who gave a special address.

After the event, Sr. Margaret shared that ā€œThere was a great spirit of joy and celebration at the event. All of our speakers, including supporters and service users, spoke with power and conviction about the impact that AAVE has had on their lives, giving them back their dignity and independence.ā€

Sr. Margaret recently celebrated 40 years in Brazil with the Sisters of Saint Louis. A native of Cloonfad Co. Roscommon, she has spent has dedicated her life in Brazil to helping those living with HIV/AIDS. Read more about Sr. Margaret’s life in Brazil an her work with AAVE here.
