Watch Mission Sunday Mass on RTÉ Player

For the 8th year in a row, Misean Cara is pleased to have been a co-presenter of a live broadcast on RTÉ of Mission Sunday Mass in celebration of World Mission Sunday on 22 October 2023. Misean Cara co-hosted the mass with MISSIO Ireland (The Pope’s official charity for overseas mission / www.missio.ie) and AMRI (The Association of Leaders of Missionaries and Religious of Ireland / www.amri.ie/).

The Most Reverend Kieran O’Reilly, Archbishop of Cashel and Emly was the Celebrant for this year’s mass, joined by a congregation from Misean Cara, MISSIO Ireland, AMRI and the Loreto House Religious Formation Ministry Programme. Sr Eilish O’Kelly, Daughters of Charity who served as a missionary in Kenya for more than a decade, and Misean Cara Board member Sr Franca Onyibor, Missionary Sisters of the Holy Rosary, a missionary in Zambia and Nigeria for two decades, represented Misean Cara at the mass as readers. Musical Director Owen Lynch led a choir and musicians from Newbridge.

Each year, October is set aside in the Catholic Church as the Month of Mission, established in 1926 by Pope Pius XI to “foster understanding of the greatness of the missionary task, encourage zeal among the clergy and the people, make the missionary movement more widely known, and encourage offerings for the missions.”

A highlight of the month each year is Mission Sunday, a day for the Catholic Church’s annual appeal for spiritual and financial support for the life-transforming work of overseas mission and missionaries.
