As part of Misean Cara’s ’15 Years : 15 Stories’ media project, this video showcases the transformative power of the Missionary Approach to Development and highlights one Irish missionary Sr. Kathleen MacLennan from the Loreto Sisters. Originally from Letterkenny in County Donegal, Sr. Kathleen’s calling as a missionary teacher took her to Peru, South Africa and South Sudan where she faced her most difficult challenge – educating girls. In the world’s newest country, less than a third of all girls in South Sudan go to school. The Loreto school is a haven to all girls who want to learn. As Principal of the school, Sr. Kathleen advocated for girls education despite an ingrained hostility and reluctance. What started off as a slow movement of changing attitudes, hearts and minds has now grown into educating the first generation of South Sudanese girls.
