Irish missionary Sr Rose Kelly, RJM, has been meeting with hospital officials in the small town of Jean Rabel, to help coordinate aid relief for some of the many returning families from Port-Au-Prince to the region.
Sr Rose, who is a member of the Religious of Jesus and Mary, has been working in the northern region of Haiti for the past five years. There she has worked as the supervisor of a Training Programme for Pre-School Teachers. She has also in the past been involved in building projects that included two community centres and two preschools.
Rose and her fellow American and Haitian Sisters have met with people who have been providing support to people who are grieving the deaths of family members. They have also given donations to some who had lost all in the capital. Sr Rose and her fellow Sisters have coordinated the sending of trucks/ buses to Port-Au-Prince to pick up students and loved ones, living and dead, to bring them back to their families.
Sr Rose is originally from Castlebar in Co Mayo and previously worked at the Salerno Secondary School in Salthill and Travelling Community in Hillside, Ballybane.
