Samples of the regional range and variety of development work of missionaries
Colombia
Implementing a programme for the continual training for
self-employment of women, aged 12 - 60 years with special needs and
their mothers from over 80 families. The skills acquired in
jewellery making, handcrafts and computer servicing will enable them
to be selfemployed, thus achieving betterment of their situation of
poverty and social marginalisation.
Sudan
Vocational training and provision of livelihood skills for 230
students from Darfur refugee camps and the Nuba Mountains.
Sudan
Promotion of education especially the education of girls among the
Toposa people of Southern Sudan. The target group of 15,000 children
in the Nanyanacor area who have no other opportunity to receive
primary education.
South Africa
Creation of a musical written and composed by local youth, to
conscientitise urban youth towards embracing healthy lifestyle
values and empowering them to make informed decisions. This is a
holistic approach in addressing the high level of HIV infection,
drug addiction and gangsterism. The production also raises the issue
of empowerment of women. There are 45 performers and 43 on
production, technical and backstage crew. We aim to reach out to
over 500,000 disadvantaged youth.
Nigeria
Part funding for construction of school for 45 young children (aged
3-7) with hearing impairment.
Sierra Leone
Skills training for self reliance, literacy, numeracy and business
training to improve quality of life and access to higher learning
for young women.
Democratic Republic of Congo
Running of a personal development course with and for Congolese
women including a livelihood project, literacy programme; health
education; and leadership training.
Pakistan
Construction of 6 non-formal village education centres and training
of teachers to provide Marwari children with basic education.
Assistance provided to local communities affected by the earthquake
and further training was provided to local community leaders on
human rights. Providing non-formal vocational training and
occupational therapy to women in psychiatric hospital and in prison,
justice and peace work.
Thailand
Women's vocational and income generating training centre enabling
the most disadvantaged women the opportunity to learn skills which
will enable them to find sustainable employment and work their way
out of the poverty trap.
